I recently purchased a 1996 Seadoo Spx off a friend of a friend who said it has a bad crankshaft. This is my first personal watercraft and I'm vaguely familiar with two stroke motors. I would like to know what I would getting into for price ranges for rebuild kits and what my best options are for top rated company's who sell them.

If you all where wondering what I paid, 100$. The hull is in very nice shape, hardly no fading, just needs some TLC cleaning.

thats a nice clean ski! you're gonna be in the 500-600 dollar range (high estimate) for a top end with cylinder honing and boring and 1200-1300 for a full rebuild. if you plan on keeping it, i highly recommend going all oem SEADOO parts, not wsm. wsm is fine if you're not planning on keeping it long term. you'll get another 400+ hours out of a full oem rebuild, about 200 with wsm. also stay away from anything SBT makes if you want it to last longer than 20 hours.

Thanks! I want to keep it as original as possible, not looking to get anything done performance wise. Are there company's where I could send the whole motor out for a overhaul. I'm going to tear it down beginning this week and figure out what's exactly wrong.

fullbore (fullboreonline.com) or ses (seadoo engine shop) are good. i've never used ses, but the engine that a customer of mine sent to fullbore was top quality, very long turn around time, but an excellent job.
