Hi, I own a 96 seadoo speedster i would like to know what kind of oil can i use on this boat. I have a quicksilver marine lubricant premium 2 cycle outboard oil tcw3 certified. Is this safe or right to use? thanks a lot for your help!

NO. You need a API TC rated oil. Not a TCW3 oil. Sea Doo is very specific about this and you can find it in the owners manual. There are a bazillion threads on here. Just looking over the last 24 hours you should find several. Read up before you kill your ski.

You need a low ash oil. You can however get away with using the synthetic blend or mineral oil instead of full synthetic. Quicksilver does make an oil that works but it says PWC on the jug. NOT premium outboard. Take it back or give it away.

OK... now I'm totally confused! On Amazon.com, they are selling Quicksilver Premium 2-Cycle outboard oil and in the description, it says (copied and pasted) May also be used in snowmobiles, motorcycles, chain saws, & other 2-cycle air or water cooled applications where an API-TC oil is recommended. On the bottle it says TC W3. This discription is only from one of the people selling it on Amazon... Still shouldn 't use it? I do understand that just because they say this doesn't mean it's going to be ok... Is this wrong??? $80 for 3 gallons is pretty tempting but not if it will cook the engines...

Here is the address:
http://www.amazon.com/each-Quicksil...RU8Q/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1312758917&sr=8-2

I think whoever wrote that doesnt know what they are talking about. Everyone else always refers to that as just a tcw3 oil Why spend thousands on a boat but then skimp on the oil? For another $12 a gallon, you can buy the correct oil.

And I'm not about to do that.... just kinda confused as to why they would put that in the description if it's not true. I'm going to shoot an email to the company and see what is going on.... Has anyone had failures with this oil? Believe me... I'm not going to use it just to save a couple bucks and cook an engine... just wonder why that description would be on the product if it's not true??? I'll let you all know what the mfg says.

I believe I have found out that Quicksilver is made by Citgo. Please correct me if I'm wrong. In researching the Citgo 2 cycle Marine oil, it says:
CITGO SUPERGARD Marine Plus Two-Cycle Engine Oil is recommended for all water-cooled or
liquid-cooled two-cycle engines requiring an NMMA TC-W3, TC-WII® or TC-W® type oil. It may also be
used in many air-cooled two-cycle engine applications requiring API Service Category TC.

This stuff is like $12 a gallon!

Again, I'm not argueing, suggesting or anything... just getting very confused by these statements I'm finding about the lesser priced 2 stroke oils labeled tcw3.....

Quicksilver, is marketed and distributed my Mercury Marine, I don't now who actually manufactures the oil. Quicksilver does make a 2-cycle outboard motor oil, TC-W3. What you need to use is the Quicksilver PWC API-TC oil, they make it in a Synthetic and a Synthetic Blend. I believe the 96 Speedster is a 720 engine so the synthetic blend is fine.
