Hello,

Ok so im stumped, bought this 96 seadoo last year took it out ran like a bat out of hell, took it out the second time started noticing that once in awhile it would not like to accelerate after it reached a certain rpm, third time i took it out everytime i get on the throttle it will reach a certain rpm but would not like to accelerate past this point, runs great out of the water, in the water reaches a certain rpm and wont accelerate past this, any tips would be much appreciated! mechanic mentioned it might be a cavitation issue?

I would check the clearence between the Impeller and the wear ring. It should be no more than .040" if it is larger, the wear ring will need replacing. The jet pump needs as little clearence to develope thrust from the water pressure passing through it. The bigger the gap the less the thrust. Usually the rpm's will rise. If this is the case, it just won't go as fast from loss of thurst.

It could yes. It could be bad bearings in the impeller shaft too. You could check this by removing the spark plugs, loosen the clamps on the boot on the impeller shaft behind the engine and turn the shaft by hand to feel any bearing play in the shaft. It will feel like it is not real smooth rotating it, if they are getting bad. If the wear ring is beyond limits, you should replace the wear ring and check the bearings and seals on the impeller shaft closer than, when it's apart.
