I just bought a 96 Gtx with 300 hours on it should I replace the wear ring on the pump and replace the bearings? the impeller is in good shape there are just a couple of small nicks on the leading edges of the impeller can those be filed down or should I just replace it? Thanks

It really just depends on the performance of the ski. If your having high RPM's and it not going very fast then it's probably time for a wear ring. Look in your manual under propulsion system and there are certain measurements you can do with the impeller clearance and the wear ring. Typically there should not be more than the thickness of a piece of paper between the two.

The bearings will have to be checked with the pump disassembled.

How would I know if I need a new impeller, and where can I buy a wear ring and impeller if I need one, who would you recommend?
Thanks

I know that this sounds funny, but it does prove pump performance. If you crank the boat out of the water with a cooling line attached, the impeller is actually acting as a fan, similar to a leaf blower. If the impeller cannot build pressure on the discharge side out of the water, then it will not perform in the water. So with the engine running and mild to moderate throttle applied, the pump should be blowing a strong gust out of the nozzle. If so, then your wear ring should be ok. If not, replace it. It makes a huge difference in performance. Good luck.

I'll be sure to try that, also how would I know if the impeller needs to be replaced as well? And what oil or grease should I use to lubricate the pump bearings, would I service it through the black cone on the rear of the housing?

Oil......

You need to get an angled feeler gage from a local auto parts house and use it to check the clearance between your impeller and wearing ring. If the clearance is over .40" of an inch, then you need to replace the wearing ring.

The edges of the impeller don't normally wear down. They may get dinged up or cracked but your clearance on the impeller is always going to be on the wearing ring.

I'd say get the wearing ring from us. It's part# 8 and will run about $53 bucks. http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche.com/seadooforums/Seadoo_oem/Seadoo_PWC.asp?Type=13&A=39&B=18 I've had 3 complaints from members who used SBT to order their wearing ring. The ones they sent to them were the ones for the newer model pumps.

You can't beat their price though for a remanufactured impeller. They weld them up and grind them back down to OEM specifications.

Your pump oil is polyolester synthetic oil and can also be ordered through our parts warehouse:cheers:
