Hey folks
I have a 96 GTX with a fresh top end rebuild and new wear ring. When reassembling, I changed out the impeller from the stock 271000660 16/23 (which was in good shape) to a Solas Concord SD CD 14/22, It was a recommended Solas impeller for the 96 GTX with a stock engine. I had purchased the impeller for another ski which I never changed out, and thought Solas would be better.
I've run the ski only once since changing the impeller, and its barely running 50 MPH at 7000 RPM. Since the spec Speed for this ski is aroun 55 mph, I'm wondering if I'm not under-propped with the Solas. I know from my boating experience that dropping pitch will result in better hole shot at the expense of top end speed, and higher pitch will result in more speed if your engine can turn the prop at recommended RPM. That tells me that I should go back to the stock seadoo impeller if I want optimal performance. Is there something else I am not seeing here? Is there an advantage to the Solas design? Any insight would be appreciated.
