96 GTX: Cavitation Leads to Drive & Propulsion Teardown

Hi all. My 96 GTX started having cavitation issues so I tore it apart. I'm planning on a new "hat", carbon ring, bellows, drive shaft bumpers, and at least a new wear ring in the pump. I might rebuild the pump but the impeller looks good and the bearings spin free with no slop.

Anyway, my concern is the way the wear ring is worn. One side has a gap of 0.040" up to about 0.050" and the other side is 0.040" down to about 0.020". Is this normal? I know it's not the impeller because the gap doesn't move with the impeller. My fear is that the body of the pump is out of round. I didn't install the wear ring but maybe (hopefully!) it is the problem. Thoughts?

Thanks in advance for the replies.
Don

To me it looks like one of the cheap wear rings on Amazon or Ebay. The wear ring could be out of round from casting.

I pulled the wear ring and it's out of round when removed from the pump. I'll be replacing it with an OEM Sea-Doo wear ring.

This is the first time I've dealt with replacing the wear ring and I've read that they could be a b!tch to get out. I was able to remove this one with the impeller still installed by putting a screw in it and carefully prying on it with a claw hammer. It popped right out! Maybe the cheap ones come out easy. :)

In the process of going through the parts diagram and comparing it to what was actually on my GTX, I discovered that I am missing an o-ring. Specifically, #17 (293250017) on the diagram. I'll order one but can someone explain where it actually sits? On the bellows? In between the bellows and the thru-hull fitting?

Thanks again,
Don.

That O ring sits in the groove in front of the stainless cowboy hat to make it have contact with the carbon seal. It was replaced with a metal c clip.

I thought #7 was the o-ring that was replaced with the metal c-clip. #17 is the one that has me confused.

Thanks,
Don.

I’ll be doing my 96 GTi and will need to know and figure out where the o-ring sits.
I ordered one so I'll see if I can figure out where it goes when it's in hand. I'm guessing it has something to do with waterproofing on the impeller/thru-hull fitting side of the bellows.

Update....I received the o-ring and I'm pretty sure it sits on the outside of the thru hull fitting and the bellows butts up against it. It fits there nicely and the parts schematic appears to confirm it.
