96 GTX bogs and tries to cut out at 6000 RPM

Good evening guys...I have two 96 GTX skis. One of them is giving me a problem. It runs great from idle to about 5500 RPM. As long as I keep it in that range, there is no problem. Once I push it past 6000 RPM, it tries to cut out. I can feather the throttle at that point and it will go back to running normally as long as I keep it under 5500 RPM. So far I changed all the fuel lines, fuel diverter valve, cleaned the carbs, and changed the rectifier (aftermarket). I also cleaned out the fuel filter. The carb needle valve positions have not been changed (it ran great last year with the same needle setpoints).

Since my last in-water test, I have found that my water regulator valve bellows had failed, so I replaced it along with the spark plugs. Im going to take it out tomorrow for another test run to see how she does. Wish me luck.

Well...today it did run a little better. Got to 6300 RPM before it tried to stall but then the same problem. Even worse, I was running in some rough water today and after about 2 hours, she started to try to cut out at 4500 RPM. Im starting to think that its a dirty fuel tank issue. I found more grit in the fuel filter after the run. Im going to pull the carbs, jets and needles and make sure that there is nothing in there. If that doesnt work, Im at a loss.

With everything you changed out you could have an air leak. Also, did you check the new rectifier and verify it works well?

It could be an air leak…I will go back through the lines and make sure they are tight. Wasnt sure about the new rectifier but I pulled the red wire and it didn’t change how it runs.
