96 gti paddlewheel

I searched for this (yes I suck at search) and could not find the answer so here it is. I have a 96 gti and a paddle is broken off of the speedometer sensor. I looked for 1 and came up with part #295500108 and found it superseded by part# 296000193 then under that it says Note this will not work on 1996 models or units mounted that are mounted on the transom. Here is where I found it. Does anyone know if this will work with my ski?

For not much more, you can get a new sending unit... Just added this to my 95GTX. The wire colors were different for the 95 and had to download a 1994 manual to cross reference the wires. Works GREAT!
