After testing my system following many tips I got in forums, I concluded my key was faulty. Local dealer wants $98 to program a key plus the cost of the key. I found a local guy that does it for $20. He tried several times & could not program mine. I am wondering if it is because of the model & year. I see there are aftermarket keys available but they also say they won’t work on the ’96 GTI & one other model. Is this why the local guy could not program my key to my ski & will the dealer have a problem also? Where can I go from here?
