hi everyone,
we bought a used 96 gsx a couple weeks ago, it's clean and ran well, at least the day we bought it, haven't taken it out yet. Here's why: My son, who bought the ski pulled it out of the garage a couple days ago to clean it up and get ready to ski "it's 92 in Seattle" today ! Anyway, he hooked up a hose to it and for some reason let water fill in it without running the engine, he said he was "flushing" it... Who knows ? Anyway, i've drained the water out, removed the plugs, cranked it for 10 secs with no plugs in it ... done this several times. Seems to be no water.. I used CRC and sprayed it in the cylinders.....

anyway, got new plugs and installed them... When I hit the start button it cranks once and clunk....and then one beep....

take out plugs and it cranks perfectly.....

any suggestions ?

thanks,
helpless in Seattle !!!

Plugs?

How are your plugs... is there any sign of the piston hitting the bottom of the plug closing the electrode?

96 gsx wont start

hi, thanks for replying....

anyway, here's what's happened..... after I got new plugs....put them in it did crank about 1/2 dozen times and then went clunk back to original problem, then beep and says 12V low i'm wondering if i fouled or screwed up new plugs... they worked for 10 seconds (laughing) and ... nuthin......it turns over so cleanly without plugs in it with no moisture on my hands or anything..

it's hi eighties again today and i'm doing this......

battery...

Hi again.. this sounds like your battery is low on charge.. the battery takes a heck of a lot more power to turn the engine over with the spark plugs inserted... as opposed to having them out. Try charging your battery and then let me know what happens with plugs inserted... also the 12 volt low warning gives me this indication about the battery's charge. If this doesn't help we'll try the next step.
