Guys, i'm new to PWC and just bought a 9/10 96 GSX. Ultra clean with compression nos. at 165 and 165. I've been told the ski may be modded. The head appears to be stock. No known history of bottom end work. A number of people have told me to replace fuel lines and have the carbs. rebuilt immediately. I'm looking for a ballpark price and should i have a dealer do it ?

Thanks guys...Dave

Depending on which carbs you have on there the kits can go from $13 each to about $50 each. If your pretty good with working on things and have the patience to do it right you can do it. I would assume a dealer would charge you a ton of money to do it., $80-$90/hour. There's all kinds of help here to do it though, and when your finished with the project you'll know all about your carbs in case anything else needs to be done. Fuel lines wouldn't cost you much, if you get the fuel injection rated lines, I paid about $3/ft and bought 20 ft at Auto Zone. The regular black fuel lines are cheaper, but not as good, I think.

No dealer...........

Unless your Bill Gates with a ton of money, don't take it to a dealer. If you can change the oil in your car and the filter, you can fix this problem yourself.

If your referring to the grey lines..........you can do this yourself...

the carbs are easy to take apart and rebuild. Replacing the grey fuel lines is the same way. my recommendations get the manual or search on here for rebuilding carbs there is a nice step by step on the process and read it numerous time before taking anything apart.

concerning the fuel lines take the fuel selector knob off, remove the fuel filter and cut the lines at the carbs marking them with tape, draw youself a schematic whatever. then pull the fuel filler hose off the gas tank remove the retaining straps and pull it all out as a unit. then you can cut each new length to size the old, very easy method to replace the lines. and buy some new hose clamps as well, you will have to cut off the stock clamps.

hey..the mentioning of being modded, and 165 compression, you'll probably need to run or half the gas with race gas, or possibly have bad detonation...
