Im new here and recently picked up a 96 challenger with the 787 rotax motor pretty cheap. Im having a spark problem that is driving me nuts. :banghead: Checked the stator and im getting .8 ohms between the three yellow wires. Pick up is at 252.3 ohms. Stator is not grounding out to the cover. I have no power at the white or black wires at the coil when cranking. I tried cutting the rev limiter wire out of the stator harness with no results. The stator and pick up sound close to spec from what i understand. Do those number sound right? I am not getting an ohm reading on the secondary side of the coil either which makes me think the coil is bad, but shouldn't i still be getting power up to that point? Ive checked all fuses and connections. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

On the 800 engine... there is no "Rev-limiter" wire. (unlike the smaller engines) The 800's CDI actually talks to the MPEM via that wire. (It's digital info)

So... when you put the lanyard on the post... do you get your normal 2 beeps?

Also... on the 800 engine... the pick-up coil is known to break from it's mount. When that happens, the coil checks on the meter, but you don't get any fire. But, before you take the MAG cover off... I need to know about the beeps.

Thank you for your reply. Yes i do get the 2 beeps with the lanyard hooked up. Also i have already pulled the mag cover to check the pick up and everything looks good. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

ok so from what i understand now there is suppose to be a .5 volt ac pulse signal going to the white wire on the coil. which i had prior to pulling the mag cover. only problem i can see here is the secondary side of the coil being open and not giving an ohm reading. what do you think?

do the ohm readings from the stator and pickup sound right? i tried using a universal nology coil i had laying around with no results. are these coils specific?

Getting ready to put this mag cover back on. Could someone please confirm these ohm readings before I do so, I would hate to have to pull it back apart. Thanks

your stator tests are fine.

You can't use an automotive coil with a small CDI unit. You need the proper coil.
