96 challenger spark loss at hight rmp

I have a 96 challenger with a 787. It has been running fine for weeks but cut out yesterday on the water. Didn't loose all power, but when given gas it would stutter and bog down. On the trailer with a spark tester light, the light goes dim and flashes around 5000 rpm on both cylinders. Up untill that point, the light is bright orange, and returns to bright orange when you let off the throttle. Would lack of fuel cause the loss of spark, or is this strictly electrical? I bypassed the rectifier with the same results. Could it be the coil?

It may be a malfunctioning RPM limiter.

hey...disconnect the wire from mpem to coil. If it fires up, then problem with switch or rev limiter inside mpem. If no spark, coil or stator assy...:cheers:

I have the gray box, is that different from an Mpem? I have perfect spark untill 5000 rpm.

with a good/charged battery, disconnect the red wire from rectifier. See if she cuts out then...

trimmed plug wires 1/4in, yet??? or new plugs...
