I highly recommend not taking these fine but OLD ski's into 8' to 10' seas. If jetskiing in this type high adrenaline environment interests you I highly recommend a newer S3 hull with suspension!

At over 10' long and over 800 pounds haven't these new machines kind of crossed the line of being a jetski to being more of a 1/2 man boat?

I agree. Don't get me wrong... they are fast, and stable. Heck... I have a big 4 passenger Genesis that I like to ride... but the new ski's have gotten away from being "Water Go-Karts" and are now a small boat.

Growing in In SoCal... I use to ride my stand-up's in the surf. Now that was a good time. I had a mod'ed JS440 set up with two 500 gl/hr bilge pumps so I could pump the water out quick, after punching though a wave.

First of all get your facts straight the GTR isn't over 800 pounds. Second your famed GTX is 10.25' long (LOL) 46.9" wide and my RXP is 10.8' long 48.3" wide Then if your going to get caught up to this century and not get us kicked off of all bodies of water by spitting oil from your 2-stroke then you have to run a 4 stroke. They weight more due to design.

So let me see 7" longer and 1.4" inches wider and its a half a boat???????????????????? Since your GTX is over 10' it must be a 15 year old 3/8 of a boat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On a final note I own 2 96 GTI's and their is no comparison these new ski's are incredible, I mean this totally sincere, their is nothing that your GTX will do that my RXP-X won't do better except fuel economy but when you price in 2 stroke oil it might be close.

Wellll..................

Actually... it is. The dry weight is 765Lbs. It can hold 15.9 gal of fuel (111 Lbs) I don't feel like looking up the oil and coolant capacity, but we can call that 40 Lbs... so... the ready to ride weight (or curb weight) is in the range of 916 Lbs.

I'm not trying to start anything... just "Trying to keep the facts straight."

Regardless... I LOVE the new skis. Super powerful, and fast as heck... but there is something to be said about simplicity, and light weight. I would love to see SeaDoo come out with a stripped version of a new ski and get the price back into the $6k range.

It's really not a good comparison of the GTR and the older GTi (x) since the older "GT's" weren't supposed to be performance skis. A better comparison would be to the XP or SPX. (depending on the year) But here again... it's apples to oranges. And in that case... the new ski's are significantly heavier, and bigger. (I think that's what Jake was getting at)

Just my 2 cents... take it for what it's worth.

Just as a final... FYI... a 96 XP (800) would only be 495 Lbs, and the SPX (720) would be 476 Lbs ready to ride.

FACTS:
The RXP is 812 lbs dry.
The GTR is 765 lbs dry. it holds 15.9 gallons of gas at just over 7 lb/gallon, so unless you are running your ski on air, it's over 800 lbs

FACT:
I don't own a GTX so I have no idea what you are talking about. However my GSX's are 8.75' long and 500 lbs.

so yes, in my opining the extra 300 lbs makes the newer skis a small boat. Hey, it's just my opinion. If you like them fine, no need to go on the attack.

Oh, I see Doc already beat me to the facts...

And the 10' long issue as to being a 1/2 boat over a few inches, you failed to address. Just face it the weight is a non issue as it comes from the federally mandated 4 stroke!

Bottom line my 1/2 boat RPX-X will out turn, out accelerate and out brake LOL. So really what is is point! Just the simple fact it weighs less??? So does a turd and some of them float!

So in your world a rib boat is a half a jet ski?

I wasn't rying to compare them I was only defending a comment that was designed to exclude that being the 1/2 boat. I was stating an opinion on rough water capable seadoo's. But apparently if your jet ski doesn't fit some people idea of the ideal weight and size you don't really ride a jet ski, not a very community positive attitude. Is their any other limitations or exclusions that might be different from what seadoo calls a personal watercraft? Do I need to wear certain sunglasses or life jackets to be part of the community?

New ones can be larger, but there is nothing like the old LRV. At 13' and 960lbs dry, it was one huge PWC.

One thing I will say though, even with the same foot print, the weight of a 4-tec makes it harder to throw it around with your body. It's a different experience is all. Definitely a ton of fun riding an RXP (or even a hefty GTX-iS)...they just accell in different circumstances. That said, the XP is still my favorite, but I haven't tried the new 2012 RXPX or GTR. I'm sure they are amazing

Let me try it this way. It sounds like you ride rough water (ocean?) which would require the bigger/ heavier skis. I ride in a fairly calm lake which on the "worst" day would have 2' chop. With my ski I can jump the boat wakes, since I don't have ocean waves to ride. I tried a buddys 800 lb 3 man ski in our lake and it was no fun at all for me. It just plowed right thru the wakes. So to me it was riding a small boat. Now I'm guessing my GSX would get tossed around in the ocean like a toy, but being old with a bad back I don't think I'll ever be trying it anyway.

Oh and to be officially riding a PWC, your PFD must be blue, sunglasses are optional, and you must have a baseball cap on backwards. Hope that helps :)

Yes... you have to wear Black tip glasses, and Jet-Pilot life jackets. (lol) Sorry... had to be said.

Anyway... no... of coarse not. You can ride what you want, and location will dictate what you ride. I will agree that a new ski will be good in the ocean. Like I said... I grew up in SoCal... and I will be the first to agree that a small ski isn't much fun on a destination ride once you get out of the break-water, and the closed loop cooling helps fight corrosion.

I am now stuck in cold-a$$ Pittsburgh PA... and in the small-ish lakes we have around here... the small hulls are fun to jump wakes, and to throw around. Now... when I go on the rivers... around the point of Pitt... I like my big Genesis for a few reasons. I can easily stay out of the water if I want (for safety) and when I get a wake coming off of a 50' Yacht... I can pop over it.

Finally... I'm cheap. AND... since the riding season is only about 5 mo out of the year... I have a hard time buying a $10k ski that will be parked most of the time. And to be hoist... that's why I run the older skis. I don't have to make any payments, and they are easy to maintain.

Joe: In the case of the LRV... it was SeaDoo's intent to make a boat. (lol) BUT... that's what made them cool. It's a monster !! I think everyone should have an LRV, SUV, or Genesis in their stable.

Joe you must ride the new T-3 Hull, 2012 RXP-X I've let all kinds of people ride mine. They truly turn like a formula one car. They have no comparison in a factory Ski. I have sevreal diehard Yamaha friends that would tell you it was the best ski they ever rode with out any hesitation. You must go ride on at a Seadoo test ride near you. We had a spring bash with 70 jet skis this last weekend. The top 3 pwc in shalom were RXP-X 2012's, my Yamaha friend asked to borrow mine and he took first place. They are that amazing.

Rough water no

No, my ski kills me in chop over 3 feet. I ride sitting. But in sport mode, don't ask me why there is anything else, I can snap the throttle from a dead stop and the ski will leap out of the water. So jumping boat wakes is easy as I can accellerate and become airborne with just a snap of the throttle. I live in Lakeland so figure it out where I ride most of the time. I stated that the S3 hull with suspension is a big ocean ski. I don't own one. I was just commenting in reference to a closed thread about big waves.
If you have never tried a T3 hull 2012 RXP-X you haven't lived. I sold 2 already by letting people try mine. One guy sold his Honda the very night he tried my ski.

PS my glasses are seadoo googles in yellow and I have a Jet Pilot vest
