well my year isnt startin off well lol.. my other ski died now this one is also.. my 98 xp (951) is grinding when i start it. I rode it for an hour, then it stalled out and wouldnt start back up. For a while it was very weak cranking, almost like the batt was dead. As I was troubleshooting, it changed. Now it turns over, but very sluggish with a rattling noise, if you give it gas and force it, it will start but with a loud rattling noise coming from the engine block. I examined the pistons and even cranked it by hand. The rods and pistons function normally. I cant figure this one out! At first I thought maybe the starter was hanging up on the flywheel but if that was the case I thought it would only do it when running and not while turning over also? Like i said, its a loud rattling noise inside that drags the engine down.. while cranking and while running, causing it to start weak and stall immediately
