951 knocking while engine shuts down

My 2000 GTX has a knocking sound when the engine shuts off in the water. I installed a brand new jet pump from SBT, still making the knocking at low RPM and more importantly when you remove the kill switch.
Is this coming from an excessive amount of play in the drive shaft?
