I recently had to buy a new multigauge for my 96 XP and when I went to go install it the other night I noticed that it has slightly different plugs/connectors then what would match up to my front electrical box. Both gauges have the same number of wires and same colors scheme on the wires
After some research I found that there are 2 different gauges for a 95 model (Part # 278000684) and a 96 model (Part # 278000502). The 95 model gauge has a total of (4) connectors. One plug has (4) wires and the other (3) plugs have (2) wires each. Now the 96 model gauge has a total of 3 connectors. one terminal has 6 wires while the other (2) terminals have 2 wires each.
Apparently I must have an MPEM out of a 95 XP800 because that is the style of connectors that match up to the 95 style gauge but not the 96 style.
Is there any reason why I can't splice the connectors from the 95 gauge onto the new gauge so the plugs match up? Everything else matches up great between the gauges just the plugs are slightly different with how many of the wires are in each connector.
Also since I think I have a 95 MPEM does this mean that there is a chance that my DESS isn't enabled? I believe you can check to see by placing a magnet on the post and then trying to turn over the engine correct?
And thats the end of my novel
