I have a ghost in here.My xp worked just fine until the vts stuck and died.Right after that the starter just started turning over until i disconnected battery.Replaced start stop/vts switch, solenoid, voltage regulator, complete vts, replaced fuses, even starter. Don't know what else to do.HELP!

I will tell you what summerfun I just narrowed mine down to the trim ..it would only run if you had the starter engaged then it fixed itself now its at it again..If you hold the trim on mine it will stay running???? mine ran while the trim was stuck and once I got it free it died kinda the same but opposite

Ok heres an idea, I may be way off. The ignition is an open circuit that close when you push the ignition button. If the ignition was stuck closed somehow. No matter what you change on the rest of the circuit it would keep trying to start. I would check the continuity of the ignition button. It may be sticking closed when you start the ski.

Still Cont. Cranking

95 xp: all ground wires hooked up and start/stop button replaced(still continuos cranking)

Well

Not sure if this was asked do you by chance have the battery and the starter wire backwards? its hot all the time when it should be switched on with the solenoid..

should it have the start stop or just the start button?

It has to be a short somewhere. The Ignition is seperate from all the other electronics. The ignition happens first then everything else turns on. Power to the starter is very easy to trace; something between the battery and the starter is staying closed.
Try removing the starter then doing a continutiy test on all the parts preceding the starter. Make sure the switch is open until you push the button (no beep on your multimeter).
I know its a new starter but you could have easily overtourqyed the lead and messed up the brushes in side when you replaced it. If you grounded the lead( it should blow the 15 amp fuse) it will continuously feed the circuit. Evetually the starter will overheat and melt, if thats the case. Take the starter apart carefully, and check the lead and ground inside the starter.

Also, one of the "water proof" plugs that runs from your start/stop button to the solenoid could be shorting!

you replaced the solenoid and still cranks alla time? unhook the wire that fires the solenoid. should stop. ok; 95 xp. DESS or not? if it is DESS, the start-stop button tells the MPEM to fire the solenoid. so it is probably the mpem in that case. if pre-DESS the start button fires the solenoid directly. in which case it is probably the start button.

Looks like a 95 xp but I do believe Derek has a point. If I am not mistaken he said that he all ready replaced start stop swich. which would lead me to believe that year may have had dess and part of the mpem may be bad. I am not shure that year had dess. I thought that it did not come out untill 1996 but like I allways say I can be wrong as I have only been into seadoo's for less than 6 months.

Lanyard Switch.

95 xp:I have the lanyard switch.did not have this problem prior to vts getting stuck and blowing.right after that the constant cranking started out of the blue.have taken every wire connection apart inspected put back together numerous times looking for a bad connection.

Vts

The damn vts, its got me too mine stuck now my ski only runs while I am holding the trim button hmmm

I am still trying to figure out mine but I bet they are somehow related. I either hold down the start button or the trim and it stays running your is the opposite.

there are limit switches and relays inside the module I wonder if yours is tripping one way and mine the other..
