Ok I have been working on this problem for a while and now I am loosing riding time, ticked!. I need help bad with this one! Problem is I press the start button on my 95 XP and one beep is all I get from her. Through the previous forums and help I was told to check the following, all with positive results:

1. Battery - charged
2. Ground Connections- good
3. Starter- New
4. Solenoid- New after 3 and yes crossing the terminals kicks the starter off
5. Wire Continuity test from start switch to lanyard switch - all good

I should mention too that all of this started when I jump started my ski because it sat for a while after last riding season.

The only thing that I can think of to do is install a new MPEM but I am really lost with this. Thanks for the help.

After thinking and looking at a parts diagram........what about the ignition coil? How can I test that and would that contribute to not starting? Thanks

Crete?........

Wow, I havn't been there in a long time!

You say you can jump across the solenoid and it will start and run?

I don't think your model carries the mpem, I think it's got the ECM, which shouldn't be affected by jump starting.

This sounds like a simple switch problem.

Do you have the standard 95 XP with the 717 engine or the XP800, which has the 787 motor?

If you have the kill switch, lanyard switch and the start/stop switch setup, then what I suggest is to remove or test each one of those switches for continuity. You should have two wires on each one. If you use a multi meter, test to see that the electrical connections are going open and closed.

Forget the coil, forget the mpem........repost after you check the switches.

Your lanyard, do you have the DESS type? It will be a plastic cap that sits down on top of a magnetic post that has a metal ring around it with a metal button on top? If not, then if you jumper across the kill and lanyard switch, then hit the start button, you might get a start. That would be a fast way to test.

This is the 95 XP 717 with the safety lanyard stop switch and does not have the DESS key. Also the MPEM P/N # is 278-000-423 but it seems good and does not have a burnt electrical smell. I did check all of the switches too with my meter and I am getting continuity when I press the start button and press down on the stop switch. Not sure where else to look. thanks
