so my 95 xp died last weekend when i was idling with it. it did the same this weekend. if i run it at like 1500 rpm+ it wont do this. but if i idle around with no gas, the battery light comes on and it will die after like a minute. i just replaced the battery and i keep it charged when im not riding. so what could be the problem.

What is the compression of the engine by chance? Check to be sure that everything is tight, no air leaks anywhere. You might want to turn up the idle just a small amount to keep it from stalling. Turn the Idle screw maybe 1/4 turn clockwise and see if it makes a difference. Don't confuse the Low Speed Screw for the Idle screw. The low Speed screw should be set at 1 1/2 to start at and adjusted from there.
I hope this helps. Keep me posted on your progress.

It is near where the linkage from the throttle cable is. Remove the carb cover and follow the throttle cable. It has a small flat plate under it as a stop. Flick the throttle plate with your fingers to find where the idle screw is located. You might need a mirror to see where it is also.

Keep me posted on you progress.
