Dess Lanyard

does it have a dess key? check you laynard and follow the advise that kustonKarl gave to me if it has the dess system

"I would start by cleaning the Post on the safety lanyard. It is beeping and saying it isn't connecting to the Mpem, (Multi Purpose Electronic Module) It needs to beep 2 times to let you know it is ready to start. Clean the post and cap with soapy water. Don't use any grease of lubricant on it as it needs a clean connection to make contact. Connect the lanyard to see if it is making a connection. 2 beeps and it's ready to fire up.

DESS Codes/ Beeps

2 Short beeps …the engine is ready to start
1 Long beep …no communication to MPEM
4 Short beeps… (on Jet Boats) Shifter is in gear
8 Short beeps…defective MPEM
1 Continual beep…engine over heating"

I had that same thing and karl helped me troubleshoot it and now it rauns like theres no tomorrow!!

no spark at plug(s) check to make sure you have voltage to the coil(s) while cranking it, if you have voltage to the coil(s) then nothing out you have a bad coil ( you can also check the resistance of the primary and secondary of the coil to see if its good or bad) if the coils are good but no voltage to them, then its time to chase the wires to where they get juice from and make sure no bad connections.

dont think it use a dess lanyard thanks for the tip though popasodatastie. custompartsguy how would i go about testing for voltage at the coil? also read about rev limiter goingout causing this should i check for voltage first or try this?

disconnect the red/black wire from mpem to coil. If you have spark, then you need to shut ski down fast, BUT you'll need to order new mpem. Price wont be bad, considering ita a "non-dess" system.

If still no spark from that test, then either new coil or stator is the problem.

Stator and pick up

well have you tried taking the front cover off the motor and checking the stator i know it might read ok in the ski but sometimes metal fragments get stuck to the pick up and when you turn it over you'll get a no spark situation i had that same thing just take and air gun to it and hopefully that will solve her.

Tried disconnecting the wire with no luck. how do i check for voltage at the coil? Also how do i get to the pickup after pulling the cover?

better to, pull the motor. Give ya more room.

Check the mag plug for corrosion on the pins, before yank'n motor, lets hope that easy fix.

can i just pull the flywheel and not take it out. blew air in throught the holes got spark back then it quit again.

Stator and pick up

i took the brain out and slid the cover past the fuel tank and was able to get it out and it was easy i had metal fragments in there now it clean and metal free. you might have a lose connection that needs some tlc!

what do i need to do to get flywheel off so i can get to the pick up coil to check connection with out pulling the motor.

the pick up and stator coil are mounted in the front housing you need to remove the 10mm bolts and the front motor mount and the hosuing should come right off.
