95 spi with the 587, compression is 140 for both cylinders. New black fuel lines, the shop rebuilt the carb, set the timing, and the ski ran good for 6 1/2 minutes (i timed it) then died. Took it back to the shop, the brass gear on the rotary shaft was beat up and so they replaced that and got the ski running again. Just took it back to the lake and it ran for 6 1/2 minutes (timed it again) and died. It will not start back up in the water or out. I called the shop and they are confused about it too so I am taking it back to the shop tomorrow, any ideas on what it could be?? Thanks!!

Normally you will find with an issue that is a specific time, it is a module or brain and it is getting up to temp and then internally shorting out. Try ot change something and see if the time changes. By that, run water of the MPEM for example. I'm thinking it is a temperature related issue. Maybe take off all the covers and the seat and get the air to flow through it. Just something to change the norm and see if the time interval changes.

So the shop says the brass gear was wrecked again...They said it could have been because they didn't get something right when installing it OR the crank could be bad....Does this sound reasonable?? He wants me to pick it up and run it and see what happens.

That does not justify the exact 6 min 30 second then dying..

Brass gear is mechanical and could have no bearing on your initial complaint. Can the gear cause a "timed" event, yes. But it would have to happen withni a single revolution of the gear. Not every 6.5 minutes.

Not saying the gear isn't bad as they do fail. Just trying to tie things together..

That's what I was thinking as well....At least they didn't charge me anything...I will get it in the water and see what happens.
