someone might know what the problem is but i sure as hell dont, so ive tried just about everything you can possibly imagine to get this thing goin its a 657 i cant tell what is goin on i just replaced the spark plug wires so i know for a fact im getting spark, i tested it multiple times, only thing it will run on is engine starting fluid and it will start up run for about 3-5 seconds then die. I cant tell if it is getting fuel or not but whenever i do have it running as soon as the fuel filter runs out of fuel it shuts off. This thing is drivin me crazy!!

What happens if you put pre mix down the carbs?

It sounds like you could have fuel pump issues to me.

Andy

If you are not getting fuel I would examine the whole fuel system if you are not sure when it was services last because of the boats age. For sure clean the carbs and replace rubbers/needle as need be, clean/replace fuel selector valve if you have one, pull the fuel baffle to inspect/clean, replace/inspect fuel lines and filters as need. If you happen to have the gray tempo lines remove all of them.

Sumthin I overlooked was the o ring in the external mounted fuel filter... If it's bad the system can't hold pressure n pump fuel...

You have a fuel issue,, that much is know. So,, let's start to figure this out.

Do you have the pulse line attached to the block?

I suggest that you run the engine off of an external tank that has some premix in it. If it runs well, then you know you don't have a carb issue. If not, carb issue.

If not a carb issue, start to work the lines backwards and run the ski from the line as you work your way back to the tank.

There is a good chance you are sucking air. The filter is a external filter is a common place for this. You could pressurize the line and see if you can force a leak.

You have to start somewhere with known good or known bad...

Oh,, forgot to mention. You should not run the ski on stating fluid. No oil in it, the engine will literally eat itself..

very true, and i will try to run on an external tank then i will go from there, thanks for the help guys very much appreciated

My port side 717 was doin the same thing. I could pull plugs, blow it out, put a lil WD in there.... Fire up for a few second. Finally pulled motor and it turned out that it was the rotary valve gear... If that gear is stripped it's not turning the rotary valve which doesn't let any fuel into the cylinders cause ur valves aren't opening and closing. Take off the oil pump n see if there is any slack... If there's slack the gear is bad. The whole assembly for my 717 was $89. Apparently when they strip it can slightly warp the rod, the gear was $35 figured might as well go ahead n get it all. Also I would tear down lower block... Easy to get all of the brass out that way, plus it could have made the crank gear slide on the crank shaft. If so u may have to get a new crank.
