My Speedometer is stuck on 15 MPH and jumps to speed sometimes. Anyway I am going to replace it....

The question is how in the Heck do you get it out. I stuck my size 13 hand in the lift hatch and for the life on me, I can't get my fat fingers around the large plastic nut that holds it in. Is there a special tool or a method to do this....

PS. I'm assuming the large nut has threads on it, or maybe it's a push/twist and turn thing.... Anyway however you do it, I can't get it out.

Thanks if anybody has a suggestion.

I would try to turn the face at the same time you turn the nut inside the hatch.( opposite directions) Do it in the heat of the sun light so it is easier to tun off the large nut on the inside of the hatch.

Are you sure ?

Before you mess with the gauge, Id look at the little paddle drive at the bottom of the transom. If there is any small piece of weed in the paddle shaft the speedo will read erratically, as the weed swells up due to wetness. The paddles may rotate when hand-pushed but will bog down in the water.

You have to look very carefully with a flashlight and a razor blade, Mine had no visible weed but when I poked around with a razor blade pieces of weed started coming out and it fixed the problem .

I used the turn gage and nut at the same time approch and that worked. I don't think the problem is with the paddle wheel as the gage is stuck on 15 MPH, However at $180.00 dollars, I think I can deal with a stuck gage..... I have some money but not stupid money..... As a side note I broke the flush valve for my 95 speedster... these are no longer available.... Anybody have a source?

As I indicated above... the speedo was stuck at 15 MPH. I took it out and on a whim I sprayed some oil into the speed at the electrical connector . I ran the boat last weekend and the speedo is now working.... Before you spend the $ on a new one, try this tip.... It might not work if the problem is something other that a stuck speedo, but if it is, what can it hurt.
