Hi all...

I am in the process of replacing the sound system on my 95 Speedster (tape deck was great in its day!)

Anyway, I put the new Sony marine deck in; and I can't get it to power up.
Their are 3 lines coming from the deck, ground, red, yellow.

I connected the red line to the existing red line (with the fuse), yellow to the black and grounded it.
Everything in the boat works, lights, pump, engine - but their is no power to the radio - any ideas?

Yellow is constant +, red is ignition+, black is ground. Your yellow to black connection is probably the problem.

Yeah yellow needs power not ground. You can connect the yellow and red both from the radio to the power wire coming from the boat.

I finally had some time to check it again and I just want to expand and verify before I do anything...

Old deck > Red and Black - those connected to the Red (with fuse) and black wire.

New deck > Red (ACC +), Yellow (Battery +), Black (ground) and Blue (REM OUT)

Boat > I just have the red (with fuse) and black wires.

So your new deck, take the red and yellow both and connect to the red on the boat. Then connect black to black. The blue wire out of the deck is for the remote turn on for an amp. Without an amp, you dont need it.

Unfortunately that had no effect, and I can't find my voltmeter to check any of the lines..

Is it possible that the boat has to be running to power this deck? (thats the only thing I haven't tried)...

To add insult to injury tonight, I connected the old stereo back up (red and white), it did not power up. Which might indicate that during the install I blew a fuse somewhere else! However the lights, pump and fans all still work.

So I just don't know anymore, I may need to bring it in (gulp!)

im guessing you blew a fuse when you connected yellow to black in the beginning. also, try it with the lanyard attached to the boat. You dont need a multimeter, a $2 test light will work.

You guys are good, I did blow the 10A accessory fuse.. Replaced and the deck powered up - thanks...

Now I just need to route the speaker holes, since the 5 1/4 speakers that I bought are slightly larger than the old ones.

Dont use an actual router..they can get away from you quick on fiberglass. Get a grinding tip and and use a dremel or just a drill.

I just added 2 extra speakers to my boat... I used a jigsaw with a metal cutting blade... Got small teeth...cut great.
