Hello everyone, I am new here.
I bought a 95 Speedster last week, and one of the reverse gates was broken, but the guy had a new one. I put it on and took the boat out with the kids this weekend. 45 minutes in to the trip, the other reverse gate broke off. Boat runs fine, just no reverse, so I won't need to replace it today, it is just a spare timer anyway. I have had absolutely no luck locating a new reverse gate though. Any ideas?

Question 2: While we were out, I had an issue where the left motor would go the full 7000 RPM, while the right only wanted to do 4500. Eventually it would drop down to 3000, and I would find a fouled plug. There were a handful of times that it did reach the full 7000 rpm, and the boat would go from a max speed of 35 to about 45MPH, but then it would kick right off.

Question 3: Several times we went to go, and the engines would rev like crazy, but the boat just didn't want to move. It would only go about 10. Then I would cut it to the left and start a wide turn and it acted like it would catch, and we would pick up speed quickly. Any ideas as to why that happened?

Thanks for any info you have.

You could check this link to see if this addresses the reverse gate problem you have had.

For the low revs, check my sig link for fuel delivery problems due to the grey fuel hoses and the resultant clogging of the internal filters of your carbs.

You are also probably experiencing some cavitation due to a (both?) wear rings in the pump assembly. The clearance may be wide enough to reduce efficiency of the pump in a straight line out of the hole. But as you turn, the loads on the pumps change dramatically which may allow the pump to "hook up" with more side loading.

Oh - and welcome to seadooforum.com!

I went on to the link you have for loss of power. Talk about a great bunch of info. I will work through those steps. I have alot to do to get it in top shape again, but I am looking forward to it. Had a blast over the weekend. I will let you know what I find. I am sure it is due for an overhaul on the one engine. Would you do both of them over the winter since you are doing one, or just hit the one with obvious problems? I also checked the link on the reverse gate, but mine actually broke off completely, so I will need a whole replacement. Thanks again for the info.

I also have a 1995 speedster but my problem is the rh engine gets hot and shuts off, when you watch the water coming out the hole it just dribbles out even at high rpms, took the jet apart it doesnt appear to be worn out but what else could be wrong?

good luck on the reverse gate. If it only the gate the dealer cost is 320.00, However if the bracket the gate mounts to broke you are sol along with me. that part is no longer avail.

Are you referring to the piece behind the gate when you say the bracket, or the piece that threads on to the all thread and bolts up to the gate to raise and lower it. If you are tallking about the second of the two (the little eye bolt thing that screws on to the threaded rod), the one on my left side was gone. I actually took a piece of aluminum and cut it in to the shape of an eye bolt, then drilled and tapped it to 10-32 and fastened it on. It doesn't have the ball joint, but it worked fine both days that I went out.
