Just brought what I believe to be 95 SeaDoo XP's from a neighbor that was moving.

How do I tell the difference from a XP and XP800 is there a difference?

All the registration stuff I have just says XP and the decals on the ski just say XP.

The Operators manual only references XP and does not mention XP800 but I located a supplement operators manual the references the model number.

It shows a model number as: 5880

Now my model number is : 5857 <--- does the 58 indicate XP 800??

Surely do not want to go out and start buying the wrong parts as I am trying to debug a VTS short.

Thanks

Bob the big difference is that the 5857 has a 717 engine in it and the 800 has a 787 engine in it . Both are good engines, but the 787 engine had the new technology of RAVE,( Rotax Adjustable Variable Exhaust) valve system it allows the exhaust to exit quicker by opening up the exhaust port. Both engines have a rotary valve system and use a variable injector system for the oil injector. This allows the engine to receive the injector oil at different rates depending on the RPM's. As far as the VTS both units are identical. Most of the electrical is the same also. I would just mention the model # of your XP when ever you order any parts.
I hope this clears it up some.
