I just took a compression test on my 95 xp. The front has 120lbs and the back has 40lbs. I was thinkin it was the rings or the head gasket. Does anyone know what else it could be? Any ideas would be great. Thanks

Yea. then i would have to replace the piston. But if its not that then it could most likely be the rings or the head gasket?

it is the piston. they never lose that much compression without destroying the piston. the head gasket is an O-ring that never blows. you probably damaged the inside of the head where all the chunks of piston got mashed into the head. rings cost $50 and piston with rings costs $70. the cyl walls may be ok.

thanks for the info. as i was taking of the head and exhaust manafold... i realized that now the engine mount bolts were loose on just one side... do i now have to take the whole motor out to replace?

You don't have to remove the engine but it will give you lots more room to work on it.

once you have down to where you can work on the cyls, you are about a half hour's work from having it on the bench. first time you do a piston, you want to see what you are doing. the motor mount isn't loose, it is broken. replace 1 mount at a time, so you don't mix up the shims. don't lose any shims. don't remove the broken mount base until you have replacement ones.

ok heres the update... the back piston has many small holes around the outside of the piston. the cylinder is scored not too badly but i will replace. the connecting arm has some movement on the back, but the front is pretty tight. The engine mount bolt just keeps turning, so i will have to take the motor out. Any other ideas, feel free to give them to me. Thanks for all the other advice.

A loose connecting rod is not good!

It sounds like you might have a bad connecting rod bearing. I would pull the engine and check out the extra play.

That's a good thing...you'd be lost if you didn't and it seems to be the best deal around, here on the seadoo forum. I bought one from my seadoo dealer for my 2008 speedster, because the forum didn't have one at the time....cost me $85.00!

there is not that much play with the connnecting arm. How tight should it be? what would be just enough?
