95 GTX wear ring?

I'm trying to figure out what might be wrong with my 95 GTX. Last summer it just randomly gave out. The engine starts and runs, but I don't get any propulsion. Now that I have it out of the water, I'm able to look under it - looks like the impeller is about an inch or 2 farther back (towards the rear of the ski) than it should be, causing the driveshaft to almost be floating in between the impeller and flywheel.... Would this be a symptom of a bad wear ring, or should I be looking farther back for an issue?

Also having trouble pulling the pump housing off due to gasket maker all around it holding it to the hull...

Upon further inspection, looks like motor mounts are shot and the whole motor moved forward. Appears all the output parts are OK right now.

was going to say, usually the reason things come apart between the motor and impeller is busted motor mounts. you'll want to buy or borrow an alignment tool so you can get the motor positioned where it needs to be to keep the driveline components in good working shape.

The alignment is crucial for many things. But the main concern is pump alignment. It is what allows for the impeller to line up where it needs to within the wear ring.

If you don't have access to an alignment tool near you, I have one that I rent out to fellow members..

I'm not doubting your diagnosis but I don't understand how loose motor motor mounts is going to push back the impeller. It will definitely cause problems, loose drive shaft, and it could strip out the PTO, but if the impeller has been displaced you need to look at the pump itself.
