95 gtx - stiff shifting handle

took it out the first time yesterday. I noticed the shift handle (not sure if this is the right term, it controls F/N/R) is kind of hard to pull out and push in. Is that normal or do I need to grease it? should I use silicone grease? just spray it down the handle?

I was told to wash the engine bay after each use and it's okay to just let it air dry, sound advice? should I cover up the battery during the wash? thx

I would disconnect the reverse gate and then check the cable to see if it is working smoothly or if it's the reverse gate or shift handle that is sticking and making it hard to move. In any case never hurts to lubricate the cable and grease the mechanism.

Do you use your ski in salt water? If yes probably good to rinse out the hull after use. Air drying is fine, I tend to mop up most of it myself. But that's just me. I would try and keep the battery dry if possible.
