Can someone please hip me as to how to properly remove the box? It really looks trapped in there, and if there's a trick or particular order to getting it out, I'd sure like to hear about it rather than just starting to yank stuff out of its way willy-nilly.

No need - the posting was premature. The packaging is a little nasty - first the battery had to come out, then the hose on the big arcing pipe, then we were able to wrestle it out.

This is about the charge light being on. We're a little unclear on what this means, though, because we got a few days worth of use out of the machine without any problems starting or running. Was the battery simply not being charged while the engine ran on magneto power (i.e. just a problem with the charging circuit)? Or was it running off of battery power (new, bought last summer and charged last weekend before we went on this trip)? Both of the fuses appear to be good.

A troubleshooting guide would be nice; obviously I don't have one of the "tester boxes" shown in the manual, but I am an EE with a DVM. Seems like I should look for some kind of sensible DC reading on the magneto field coil, some kind of sensible AC output from the magneto, then another sensible DC level out of the rectifier. Beyond that it's quite literally a black box problem, and I don't wanna unpot the box.
