I have a 95 seadoo gtx. When lifting the seat and looking down at the short rubber hose that covers the drive shaft, i noticed the back hose clamp loose. When trying to tighten the clamp it feels like there is nothing to clamp to. I had someone tell me they thought the bearing had broken off. Is anyone familiar with this? Any info on this would be great. thanks

Sounds as if, the cage of the bearing gave way. If so, you can upgrade/change the style, by goin to the accordian boot/carbon seal style..

It's not that simple to upgrade to the carbon seal.

Is the clamp actually tightening down? Or is it possibly not catching the threads? Is it on the foreward end or the aft end of the hose?

doc, you referring to "the obstacles", that may be encountered, with old style seal,(shaft rusted to inner race of bearings..etc), or, just process of "get'n to it"...

Clamp

Sounds to me like the shaft bearing has locked up and has spun the thru hull fitting off of the hull. The rear clamp has nothing to clamp on to and that's why it won't tighten. Is this the situation?

That's what I was thinking...that's why I asked which end seems to no tighten.

clamp

Yea Dennis and PWCDoc your right, it's the aft clamp. This sounds like what probably happened with the bearing and the thru hull fitting. This looks like it could be a costly fix. I will call the shop tomorrow and see if i can get a price. There comes a point in these older ski's where you ask yourself... Is it worth sinking the money into it to fix it? I'll post back when i get a estimate. thanks for the help.

The fix is actually less than you might think. You can get the insert and install it yourself. The insert is aluminum and slides right into place where the plastic fitting will have been after you trim it out. It takes a little time but not difficult.

The OEM part is 292000075 and is about $45.00. The aftermarket part is about $30 or so.

price

Well i finally got a price to fix the broken thru hull fitting. It isn't as bad as i originally thought, $350.00, of course, this is through the honda dealer.
