95 gts wont go

I have a freinds 95 gts. It starts and idles fine but when you throttle it, it makes a rattleing noise and has no propulsion.
Can anyone give me some direction as to what this could be caused by.
I am pretty mechanically inclined but have never worked on this type of vehicle

I would look in the jet pump area. it might have a real bad wear ring that is just bounding around and need replacing.

I have looked at the impeller and it seems to be show some wear from rocks or debris, nothing major. I measured the gap between the impeller and the wear ring. It is about .008"
I am not sure if that is acceptable.
This problem uccured right after someone tried to tow a 265 person on a tube behind it. It struggled very hard for about 1 or 2 minutes and after the person was removed at ran fine for about 5 minutes then it all of a sudden would not go. It feels as though the engine is reving and the impeller is just spinning on the shaft.

It is possible that you've stripped out the splines on the impeller. You'll have to find a way to try and hold the shaft and turn the impeller or remove the pump and inspect it.

You should be able to get nothing more than a sheet of paper between the impeller and wearing ring.......
