95 587 sti mpem

Hi everyone, well I just bought a used mpem for my 95 sti to find out before I hooked it up on the back it says do not install on 587 type engine as damage will occur, thats nice just payed $200 for it, its from a 95 xp . does anyone know if this would happen I dont dare connect it although the wiring is all the same or does anyone have a working used one for a 95 sti 587? Or am i just out another $200 ? thanks mush

a 95 XP is a 717 engine. the mpem has more advance. if you re-time the motor so that you don't have more than 20 or 21 degrees total, you will be ok. it will be a little retarded at low rpm's but not much.
