Should there be silicone holding the jet pump on? This seems like an excessive amount (see picture) on top of the pump. I've read that silicone should never be used. Is this true? Best advice for getting this pump off. I'm thinking about using the 2x4 with extra long bolts and ratchet it off.

The rope is an interesting idea,,,however,,,put the venturi and nozzle back on...in the hull remove the 2 bilge hoses and the cooling hose from the pump to the right,,,then,,,use 2 long pry bars if you have a second helper,,,and place them vertically above and below and use the hull as your pivot point,,,if you are alone,,,i go a little from the top,,a little from the bottom,,,and it will slowly and begrudgeingly come off,,the trick is to get just the right length prybar,,use the same black rtv when you replace the pump,,,clean the silicone on the transom,,and around the 2 bilge tubes and cooling fitting...when you apply the silicone later, apply it on the pump side, and not on the transom so that silicone does not accidentally plug the tubes.

Thanks for the info POPPS. I've tried everything that I currently have to get this thing off with no luck. I'll have to look for some right sized pry bars. The videos I watch just show the thing fall off after a good pull. I wish that was my case.

There's also a ton of videos on how to take it off, but almost none on how to put it back on. I'll have to remember to put the silicone on the pump side. This is good info for a newbie. Can you get that black rtv silicone at any auto parts store?

Having the right length ory bar is the key,,,trust me,,,sometimes i get one where i don't think it is going to EVER come off,,,needed even more force,,,having 2 of you will cut the job in half...remember,,,all the silicone is at "the top of the pump!",,,so thats why my pry bar is at the top steering bolt on the nozzle,

I finally got it off, but I think at a cost. One of the nozzles broke off. It looks like the nozzle had been repaired at some point in the past. Is this fixable or is the pump no good now. Picture attached.
