Hello I just purchased this '94 SPX a couple of weeks ago. It started right up when I put it in the water. I did notice it did not idle at all and the engine would would not run without giving it gas or starting it with the throttle wide open. With that being said it ran pretty well until I let it cool down the first day. I thougt it was a battery problem, I replaced the batery and put new spark plugs in it. I still could not get it started. Then all of the sudden I got it started again. Fast forward to the next day, It starts up fine and I decide to take a long ride, It was running well and all of the sudden it just dies, I was able to get it started back up within 2 seconds and It died again and that was it I have not gotten it started again. THis leaves me to suspect it is a fuel system issue. A few things i Noticed, One of the small oil lines had broken off that ran in between the engine cases. I had found a bad one before I took it out and replaced it. I can not find where this one connects to, it is on the bottom left of the engine if you are looking at the engine from starbord side.
The engine does turnover and it has compression.
Where does this connect to? Could this have an issue with the not running?
After reading the manual I am considering removing the oil injection system with a kit and using premix.
I have done some reading and I am replacing the grey fuel lines with new lines.
I know the fuel pump is work and and the filter is clean.
I figured if I could get the carb out I would just rebuild it and adjust the idle on it, but I can remove the carbs. It looks to me the only way to get the carbs out is to remove the enitre engine and I really do not want to do that. I have read through the manual and some of it is a little confusing.
I notice there are 4 nuts holding the carbs on 2 on each carb, but I can not get a box wrench around any of the nuts to take it off that way. There seems to be something in teh way it is either the carb itself or the cylinder.
I have also tried take it off with the 6 bolts on the piece just below the carb that is the intake manifold I believe I can not reach all of these either. The other option is the 4 bolts that hold on the exhause manifold to the cylinder. I can not get to these either.
Do I just have to take the entire engine out?
Sorry for the long post I am desperate to get this working. I do not have much experience with 2 cycle watercraft engines. I had dirtbikes for years and I had no problems working on those.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Nick
