Hi folks I just got my first Seadoo 94 xp model. It is in really good shape and the guy I got it from just had the carbs rebuilt. It starts up first time and seems to run pretty good. Im wondering what kind of mods would be best to addon. I was thinking a new exhaust system would be cool. I was also wondering about upgrading to a new engine. Is it possible to put a larger engine in this hull like maybe one from a 96 model or so to get some extra horses.

Also where is the best place to order parts?

Thanks I would love to hear some ideas! I got the ski real cheap so im willing to spend some cash on parts but want to make sure I get the best thing for my money.

657x....

Welcome to the forum.

You've got one of the first 657cc Rotax motors. Really nice and reliable, fast but not awesome fast. If I were going to mod this machine, I think I'd look at the pump end. Your engine is designed to go fast from the factory.

If you do get into engine mods, you'll need to think about the life span of the engine. With modding comes a lot more stress and an engine that old.....
I'd go with the pump first.

Check out this link...... http://www.rivayamaha.com/ for mod parts. Look through the tabs for "pumps" and you'll find power nozzles and pump wedges. As for parts, we have some of the cheapest deals on the internet. Click on the parts link up on the top right or click on the parts link in my signature, near the bottom.........

Good luck and welcome to the forum...........!

Thanks for the reply. I am still trying to figure out a few things about this ski. The guy I bought it from told me he was mixing the gas with oil as well as running oil from the reserve since he just had the carbs rebuilt and wanted to be sure it got oil. The oil tank looks almost empty and the red light comes on when its running. My questions is how can I be sure the oil pump is working so I dont blow up the motor, I would like to NOT have to mix oil if i didnt have to. I checked all the tubing and it still seems to be hooked up to the carbs and the rubber lines look pretty new so I assume it works but would like to be sure.

Also the RPM gauge doesnt seem to be working and I dont see any parts listed online to fix it. Im not sure if its just a bad dial or something more serious so what should I be checking?

As well as the RPM guage the VTS doesnt seem to work. Again im not sure what to check but I looked at the rear near the pump and it seems to be pretty new as well some im wondering what all I should check.

Thanks for all the help guys!

hey bsdbum....
for accurately knowing if injection system work'n, believe there's a mark on injector/housing that it needs to line up with, BUT sure someone else describe it, better detail. The oil resivoir, dont run that low/empty, you'll burn up the RV assy, show'n low oil, cause, with low oil, and ski move'n/bounce'n around, might be developing air pockets within the lines(not good). RPM gauge, recheck the wires at gauge itself, or by manual/trial-error, take a gander at the fuses, and same scenerio with VTS system, recheck the wires and check the 7.5amp fuse at electrical box, this fuse is linked to that system. good luck

As far as your vts system goes i would open it up (its the black box just above the jet pump.) Odds are when you open it up you'll see all sorts of unplesent stuff. Back when I had two sea doos both of the vts systems broke very quickly and one actually started to cause water to get pumped into the ski. You can spend all sorts of time and money trying to get that fixed but my advice would be to lock it into the position you like best and let it be. In my experience its really not worth the trouble. . .unless your just one of those people who has to have everything working perfect.

just my $.02

Thanks for all the info guys! So far I think my project is going great! I love to learn about this stuff and its keeping me busy during my free time. Anyway I decided to tackle the VTS system. After getting the motor and worm gear taken apart it looks as if my motor is bad. I hooked up a ohm meter and read 1.3ohms but when I put 12v to it no dice, it didn't even budge. The worm gear did have a bunch of sand and old grease clogging it up so I cleaned that out well and greased it back up and it turns nicely now. Next I wanted to make sure my switch was working so I put my meter on the connector coming in from the VTS switch that leads to the VTS motor to make sure it was sending the motor +/- 12v and indeed it is. I also checked with the cable disconnected from the motor that I could move the pump nozzle up and down to insure my VTS cable was not froze up and it moves freely. I am pretty sure at this point I have ruled everything out and the failure must be in the motor itself. I found a motor on fleabay for cheap so I went ahead and ordered a replacement.

I like the idea of securing the trim in place but since I found a cheap / working replacement motor I will go ahead and try and get it working again.

I am still looking for a replacement tachometer, I believe this one I have is bad but I cant find a replacement so I will have to keep looking.

For now I think my next step will be to install a oil pump block off kit. I have a friend who knows a lot more about working on Seadoo engines who has agreed to come over and help install it.

After I know the engine is in good working order I will look forward to installing a new intake grate and pump nozzle and thats probably about it for this ski.

Once I get these few things working I think it will be time to upgrade to a 96 XP 800 and hand this one over to the wife. =D

Thanks again for all the help / replies.

Wow, from post 1 to post 6, you sure learned a lot, fast!.....Seems to me your a bit more of a mechanic than your letting on to. Your also very articulate in your writing. Great descriptions and write up!

Yeah, we have the tach in our warehouse, if your willing to cough up $233 buckaroo's!.......man, I almost died when I saw that price. I'd just hope the rev limiter was doing it's job and go on from there. But, it's part # 46, you can follow this link if you'd like to look at the parts page for your electrical accessories... http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche.com/seadooforums/Seadoo_oem/Seadoo_PWC.asp?Type=13&A=20&B=1

Can't wait to hear how your VTS repair comes out. Keep us posted!
