It's a 650 and yes I did say again! I just finished installing a new jug, piston, and head on the front cylinder. I bought it needing this done so I figured the oil pump went bad. Well I ffinished the rebuild and done away with th oil injection. Took her out yesterday and the same thing happened. The piston is eat up around the outside edge as well as the head. I think the jug can be saved this time. Why does it keep having this problem? My premix is 40:1 all I can figure is the carb. By the way i am thinking about selling it the way it sets. What is it worth roughly, it is in excellent shape. Thank you.

Did you break in the engine properly? Might have something to do with it. If you just rebuilt it and threw in the water with 40:1 and took off wide open you probably screwed it up. You need more oil in the gas when your breaking it in, more than 40:1 for the first tank.

break in.......

Break in is 32:1.........

You do the work yourself? Did you take all the necessary measurements to make sure deflection and axial and radial movement was within limits.......

Did you ever mess with the carbs.......in most of the twin carbed engines, the main jets are different sizes due to location.........

xtrema....with the jug/s off, check to make sure, the bearing thats between the journal( bottom of the rod), didnt fall apart. Seen it happen, piston moves, but A)..low compression, B)..bearing material coming up the jackets, and pitting top of piston....good luck

My first trip I mixed at 32:1 and kept fouling plugs. I didn't get to run it for longer than 3 mins. This time I mixed the 40:1 and didn't run it wide open at all. I moved the rod up and down and side to side when I had the jug off aand nothing seemed to move much if any. I have rebuilt several gas and diesel engines but I aint much on a 2 stroke. I havent had the carbs apart but since it has happened twice on the front cylinder I am thinking carb issues. When the oil injection is hooked up does it mix before the carb or after? Thanks guys. I am probably going to sell it since it is taking so much time away from the wife and I but I would still like to know the cause.

after....you see 2 skinny lines goin to intake manifold, there's 2 spigots on that, which oil is injected thru there.....you mixed your gas, so oil, is present. Howd the plug look this time.

Looked VERY lean. almost white. Mixed gas so oil is indeed present unless I have carb issues. But since I now know that the oil was injected after the carb when the injector was stilll hooked up, I am at a loss s to whats causing my problem. Anyway what do you reckon this ski is worth in this shape? Thanks again

If you were running the injection tank and premix when you broke it in 32:1 was too much. 32:1 is for break-in with premix only, no injection. If you are using the injection pump when your breaking in then you should premix at 50:1. Might wanna check if oil pump is working and properly synced w/ the carbs.
