I have a '93 SPX that recently started having a problem keeping the key attached to the switch on the hull. It will be running fine, then all of a sudden the key pops off. This happens with both the old key and a new key. It's almost like the spring-loaded rod that the key pushes down on has too much tension and over comes the plastic snap-fit of the key.

The only way I've found to keep the key on is to loosen up the switch on the hull which effectively relieves some of the spring tension.

Anybody else have a similar situation? What was your resolve? Can I use a washer or two under the switch to raise it some to loosen up on the spring tension, but still keep it tight on the hull?

Replacement....

Your not running the magnetic DESS system, you have the old, typical power interrupt switch.......
They can't be much more that $20 bucks or so to replace. You can probably get one at any place like West Marine or Boats US.....
May be easier to replace then to keep fooling with........

My '97 has the DESS key. The '93 is the old style. The switch is good, so I hate to replace a good part. Last time we used the ski's (couple of weeks ago), the key stayed put until the end of the day. Then started popping off.

I'll take a closer look at it in the next few days.

lanyard key

you can hit it with a lighter for a sec. It will shrink up and stay on better.
It worked for me.,
