93 GTS No Power

So i have this GTS that at WOT i Have like little or no power, for the first 10-15 mins it runs great then after that it starts getting slower like losing 5-10 mph per 20 mins. finally till it is only doing about 15-20 mph. it will also go fast then slow fast then slow fast then slow, if i pull the choke out about 1/8th the way it gets a little better but not much. maybe 4 mph it already has black fuel lines. and this is like an all of a sudden thing, also it has a new fuel selector switch. and brand new plugs. please let me know. :ack:

Well, I think it sounds like a fuel supply problem.

Here are a few suggestions:

1.) Clogged fuel tank vents. Loosen the fuel cap, and see if it helps. (Note, this is a good way to loose the cap) So, use some care. If it helps, then you should check out the vents.

2.) Bad fuel line from crankcase to diaphragm pump. As it heats up, the rubber relaxes, and lets it breath a little. Replace this line, and tighten the clamps.

3.) Clogged intake screen, at the bottom of the fuel baffle. If this is it, then as you run it, it clogs up. Stopping the motor, and shaking it around could dislodge the trash clogging it up, and allow it to run a few more minutes, until it sucks the trash back up.

4.) Kick off your fat 400 pound uncle. (check this first!)

Best I can do for you!

I have been wrong more than right, but the advice was free!

tried fuel line today and fuel cap test, neither sucessful. i pulled the carb off today and am going to rebuild as soon as the kit comes in. i even cut back the spark plug wires 1/4" and threw a fresh set of 7ES's in it. it ran great again for about 15 mins then started with the fast then slow fast then slow every few seconds. i'm baffled. something just keeps pointing tword ignition. but everyone is saying carburator, so i will rebuild and see where that ends me up. any input greatly appreciated.

those 7es's, think they're a hot plug?, use the 8es...compression test? recheck all connects, wires for corrosion...etc..

the ski calls for 7es from factory. all wires corosion free. connections good. thanks for the quick reply its really a GTS not a SPI im sorry

Have you found the problem yet?
Does it come and go like it is being switched on and off? That is what mine is doing. It drops to operation on one cylinder anytime I ask for more than a few seconds of high speed. If I hold the throttle open the second cylinder will cut in and out randomly in periods of 1-10 seconds. That give you a real thrill when it kicks in and a sudden lack of pwer when it drops out again. I thought it was a bad plug, but two new ones changed nothing.
