Needing a bit of expertise on this project, what modifications would be necessary to swap the 587 for a 717 or is this basically a bolt in swap out..

I have a deal working on a running 717 motor and would like to swap it out if it's not too big of a deal....

Thanks,
Butch

you can, but you'll need the electronics for a 717/720...good idea to re-prop your pump too.

Thanks Seadooya, the 717 came out of a running boat that's being parted out so getting the electronics not a problem... The next question is what electronics are needed to do the swap? I am not sure what all electrics are needed. If I can get this project done the 93 XP with a 717 should haul buggy !!!

yes it should....grab the grey ebox and any gauges you want, to install on your ski, you can always drill some holes where the landyard post is, to mount more gauges. Anything that plugs into the greybox and its "wiring harness", you'll want to get. If you got a fuel gauge on yours, then you wont need the "sending unit" from the other one, nor the oil sensor as well, if your gots that too.

Hey Seadooya, just bought the 717 today, complete motor, carbs, exhaust manifold, starter, has 153 compression in both cylinders for $175.00 it's clean as a whistle. Pulled out the 587 this afternoon and gave the hull a good scrubbing so all I need is the grey box for the 717 electrics and new rubber motor mounts 2 were shot so I may as well replace all 4 while it's easy... 175.00 sound like a ok deal to you for the 717 ? The guy also has a clean 587 for sale it too is a complete motor..

So the main question is will the little SP with the 717 pull out that slippery stick ?

Any updates? I'm considering replacing my worn out 587 in my 91 SP with a 717 if i can find one. The old hulls are so much fun to ride I just want more power.

You will need a '96 xps thru hull pipe, hose, flange. So the 720 can breath out! The 587 pipe system is too small.

175 Bucks for a 717?? wow thats an awesome deal!!! I dont need an engine but at that price i would have bought a spare!
