We have a 93 gtx with no spark, the dealer said to replace the mpem. We've replaced the mpem and still have no spark.

Does anyone know what the problem might be?

Also how do we test the cdi and what does the rectifier do?

Thanks

cdi is the mpem. rectifier is other half of the alternator to charge battery. check the wires going to the front of the motor. 2 are to the rectifier. one is a ground. other is the spark. if everything is ok, and mpem is good, it is probably the stator in the front of motor. also; unhook the wire to the kill button. if it is stuck on, it will kill the spark. that is what it does.

trigger coil?

derek, are you referring to the trigger coil in the magneto?

Also, though the magneto performs the same function as an alternator, in a marine application, proper terminology is the "magneto".

I'm sure your completly aware of that, since your mechanical background is experienced. I just would like to keep us using the same terminology so that we don't confuse those with less experience.

Can you just see a post, or PM to you, asking where the alternator is?......

i was trying to put it into terms he understood. i did starters and alternators as a living for a couple of years. so, sometimes i think of them in the automotive terms. i don't see a post, but the stator, combined with the magnets in the flywheel is an alternating current generator, that the regulator-rectifier converts into 14.5 volts to charge the battery. the 2 pieces together make what in car-speak would be called an alternator.
