Hey everyone...I have been lurking for a while and reading up and stuff. I have and old 93 GTX that the kids play with at the lake but the last couple of years it has not been running so good. 2 years ago the neighbors wrecked it and it has not been the same. We had the cosmetic damage fixed but the gas gauge quit. So question #1
I pulled the tank out and pulled the gas gauge thing out of the tank. I took the floater thing out and put it in some gas...it DOES float. But, I noticed a little black thing stuck in the bottom of the tube. I appears to be a tiny magnet. I think it might go in the slot on the back side of the float but am not sure. Also, if it does...how can I get it to stay in there now? Can I just some kind of glue that won't disolve in gas?
OK,..haha so that was was more than one question.
Number 2 problem. It is VERY hard to start...dies all the time and sometimes will not restart so your stranded. Also, hesitates when trying to take off. Usually have to do some combo of the choke and gas to get it past the first pop off. About 2 years ago I took the carbs off and my dad rebuilt them for me. It did the same thing...took it to a PWC place and they took the carbs off and checked everything...changed the pop off springs and "set" the carbs for me. Same problem. I have screwed every screw and set every setting I can find on them and can never make it run like when we bought it. It has good compression and it does have the BLACK hoses. I was reading about the grey lines and replacing them but mine have been replaced already I guess. They are black and look like automotive fuel line hose.
Now, I just took the tank out this morning to look at the gas gauge and found that one of the hoses was smashed againist the side of the doo. It looks like it might have been smashed all the way closed. It is the return gas line to the tank. It comes from the back carb and goes into the tank. What kind of problems would this cause with my doo? I'm going to get a barb and fix it for sure but just wondering if that might be some of my dieing, not starting problems. Looks like it has been smashed for some time. (maybe from the wreck) It was hit hard in the side by my dad's Polaris. Neighbors "borrowed" them when we were not around and crashed them into each other then said sorry and drove off. Anyway, now it is what it is and my kids want it to run. Plus....I'm tired of taking the boat out to get them when they get stranded. hah
Sorry for the long post and thanks for any advice anyone is willing to give!
