hey everyone just came across a winter project to keep me and my brothers busy
will be picking it up tomorrow
as you can see its in pretty bad shape but got it cheap
i think its a 93 seadoo gtx? last owner didnt know a whole lot about it then engine is currently in bits but he said it was 850cc
witch i dont think is right, these came with a 587cc right? im apprenntice mechainc so engine dramas are no problem
would just like some info on it and if there are any bigger motors that arnt to hard to swap into this hulll?

the plan is for a bit of cheap summer fun
sand down and regel coat the hull not sure on colour but im looking at black with red or silvier hoot and seat with some new graphics

rebuild the current engine or find a replacemennt?
fix up the trailer a little
and have some fun, not the best ski for speed or anything like that but cheap skis are hard to find over here

heres the pic form the add will get more when i get it home and look for model numbers ect
cheers

Yep... that's a 587 engine ski. Check ebay for a good used engine. (depending on the damage of your engine) In good running condition... it will run around 40 mph.

You can swap in a 720 engine... but you will need all the support electronics with the bigger engine... so it's really not worth it. The general thoughts about a "Swap" on this board is... go buy a ski with a bigger engine if you want more power. The reason is... it can get expensive very quick... and... when you go to sell it... you won't get any more $$$ that the original ski was worth.

FYI... the last 2 numbers on the hull tag are it's year.

thanks mate thought it was the 587 tryed to tell the bloke this but he insited it was a 850
the current 587 doesnt look to bad, ive only had a quick look over it but bores ect should clean up ok
will have a better look when i get it home

the swap with a 720 does that all bolt up or is there fab work involved?? would be interested in this, the electrics shouldnt be to hard im not worried about the cost to much as it will be done bit by bit over time, really id love to go out and buy a better ski but being 17 on apprentice wages i carnt affort it right now, so ill slowly be fixing this up
theres currently a "XP 787 800 R.A.V.E Engine" link http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/261066679034?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 would this be suitiable? if not may have to ship one in from the USA.

thanks for the info about the year will check it out

thanks for the help so far mate

The 720 and smaller engine will be a bolt in. You just need it's MPEM, and CDI to make it work right. Otherwise... you won't get anymore power than you have now.

As far as an 800... the mounts are totally different... and it's such a large jump in power... you would need to rework the pump too. (along with all the electronics)

too easy thanks mate, will keep an eye out for a 720 if i decide to upgrade may just stick with a rebuild for now will have a real close look at the motor tomorrow and see what its like.

If I had to judge by the condition of the hull, that old girl hasn't gotten much love. Have you tried to turn it over yet? It might just need a hone and some rings, or like the Doc said, a complete engine.

If you haven't already, I'd try and get an idea of what the compression is before I started tearing it out.

Fun little projects though. I have a couple myself.

yeah she needs a bit of work but should clean up ok, pics make it look worse then it is

the engines allready been pulled apart and is sitting in boxes, was this way when i got it according to the last owner he lent it to some people and they brought it back with water in the cylinders, so he just ripped it apart, what would cause this? a blown gasket?

Maybe the ski stalled out on the borrowers, Couldn't get it started and had it towed back in. The cylinders could've filled with water and not knowing any better figured something more damaging happened and pulled the jugs. Dunno, just a guess.
