92 GTX Starter

Hi,

I have a 92 Seadoo GTX that when I bought it worked but the kids called one day and it wouldn’t start brought it home, solenoid clicks replaced that still nothing so I pulled the starter benched tested it and it’s fine. I’m trying to reinstall it but the starter doesn’t want to slide all the way in. There’s always a 1/4” or so gap between the starter and the housing for the flywheel. Any ideas how to get this to seat or if I’m doing something wrong?

I appreciate any help

Steve
