I got this jet ski a week ago with an engine to put in it. The hull sat unused since 1997 or possibly even before that. I put the engine in and hooked everything up. It runs great when i pour some gas into the carb but once that gas runs out it dies. I can see the gas flowing through the orange return hose to the tank. I also took the output line off of the fuel pump and it does pump gas. I put 2 gallons of fresh gas in the tank to make sure the gas wasnt bad. Does my carb have some kind of issue?

Yeah, it's most likely your carbs, probably the little filters in the carbs are clogged. If you have the original fuel line on there, change it out. It turns to goo and clogs up the carbs. Put a new fuel filter up in the reservoir up front you might want to replace the fuel valve too.

fuel selector

Yeah just started this project today. Replacing gray fuel lines and they are pretty bad. Also have to replace fuel selector.... Not a very difficult project just a lot of time and some frustration

at the least with the ski sitting for that long unused you would be rebuilding the carbs no matter what, so the fuel lines since grey did need to be changed, the fuel selector cleaned or replaced, the carbs rebuilt, the tank removed and drained and clean the tank, new cup fuel filter. I suggest with as long as it sat not just cleaning the carbs with a can of carb cleaner, I suggest a complete tear down of the carbs and soak them in carb cleaning solution which comes in a 1 gallon or 5 gallon bucket, and let them soak, most repair shops will have a bucket of solution and will not charge you that much just to soak your carbs. When you take them apart do not loose anything and remember where everything goes. I would make sure that the cooling system has good flow as well, it could be clogged from sitting not to mention those lovely mud dobbers.

If the carbs are COMPLETLY torn down you can use cemtool acid that you buy at autozone with great results.

That will take the paint off of them won't it? I don't think that would be a good idea if it does take the paint off.
