Is this pto side flywheel supposed to move at all? When I say move I mean slide on the shaft not spin around it.

I am not 100% what you mean by slide on the shaft. The shaft slides into the flywheel. But the PTO only spins. It's screwed onto the crankshaft, which turns the flywheel which turns the driveshaft which turn impeller. Everything moves the same direction, the same speed.

If something I sliding then I suspect you are talking about the driveshaft. You might be missing the rubber bumpers on either end of the driveshaft and you have some play in the driveshaft which could cause it to slip.

If the PTO is moving then something has gone wrong with the crank. Maybe the threads stripped, although I never heard of that before. Does this ski run?

The ski was running great then it started to have fuel issues. I replaced all the fuel lines and filter and started it up on the hose. When I Rev it up the pto flywheel literally moves back and forth on the drive shaft. I'll try and get a video.

Also idk if it matters or not but I had taken it out 3 times for a min of 2 hrs before the what I thought was fuel issues and it ran perfectly and i didnt do one thing to it. I bought it and dropped it in tbe water and I hit 35mph according to the GPS speed app on my phone.

That is pretty crazy. Never seen other before. When you rev it and then let go of the gas, that's when it starts to pop out. So I'm thinking the PTO is not on very tight and it's starting to unscrew itself from the momentum of the slowing engine. When you hit the gas it tightens itself back up and returns to the normal position.

But it should torque itself tight enough so it does not do that, especially when its under load in the water. Usually the PTO is extremely tough to get off. I would probably pull the pump and driveshaft out and see if it really is loose enough that you can unscrew it with little effort. If you can then I would suggest using some loctite on it and torque it to spec. Normally you should use anti seize but this is a strange one.

Also when the driveshaft is out check and make sure you have the rubber stoppers on each end of the driveshaft. WIth that much movement they probably got mangled up.

That was my next thing was to pull the pump and driveshaft. I can not move the pto on the shaft like that by hand or even with a small pry bar. It's only when it's running and like you said when you are off throttle. I have the manual so tomorrow after work I will pull the pump and shaft and see what's going on. Thank you for the reply. I got this one and a 92 xp twin carb with the white 587 and it ran but I tore it apart to change all the lines and rebuild carbs so I wasn't able to check to see if that one moved. These are my first two skis lol. Not new to 2strokes or any type of engine/mechanic work and I got both of them for under 400$ so I was like ya new hobby lol. I did paint the 1990 gm blue and gm pearl white and put atv bars on it with a twist throttle. I do have new oil and water line and a carb rebuild coming also.
