I'm brand new here and was just wondering if any of you guys have ever heard of or seen this before.
I bought my 1997 Seadoo Challenger 1800 used approx. 4 years ago. At the beginning of this summer I tried to crank the engines and one cranked fine but the other appeared to be locked up or bad starter. I pulled the plugs and spun engine over and lots of injection oil sprayed out. After working with it for a little bit I was able to fire engine off and after a bit it ran fine.
I took it out in the water and ran it for a while and it ran fine.
I got home feeling pretty good and began flushing the engines as always and the engine will crank up but ater 4-5 seconds it dies. Cranks, 4sec, dies, etc.
Do these issues point to anything in particular.
Any help would be much appreciated,

Thanks,
Duane

Rotary seals.....

It sounds like your saying it sat for 4 years. If so, then your rotary seals may have gone bad in that period. The seals are in the middle of the crankshaft and are there to contain the injection oil inside the rotary chamber. If the engine sits for a long period of time, it's normal for oil to seep into the crankcase. But, if it sits for a prolonged period of time, the seals may have dried up and gone bad....

I'm sorry I didn't give a lot of detail but I was trying to be brief as possible.
I have used it every summer for the 4 years I've owned it.
What is real strange is my brother-in-law has a 1997 GTX with same engine of coarse and he said he has had same problem with his in last couple of years.
He bought his ski new in 1997.
After we clear them out they run fine.

hi seadoosnipe is right its probably the rotary seals and the only bad thing is you cant replace the seals yourself and by the time you buy a new crankshaft and pay somebody else to put it in you can pretty much buy a new engine for not much more unless you can put the crank in yourself. check out sbtontheweb.com there #1 GOOD LUCK!!!
