ok, what I`m asking is the 787 engine considered a high performance engine?

I understand that any modded engine with increased compression, rpm limits, and timing, larger carbs or injectors with ecu upgrades would be considered High Perf.
But is the stock 787 carb`s engine High perf?

I`m asking bc I`ve always preached about 2 stroke oils having their place...
while XPS, Mystik, Interceptor and the off the shelf brands are suitable for Recreational riding, there are those oils that are considered a racing oil for 2 strokes in PWC and sleds like Klots, maxima, Dominator etc etc

Dominator could be purchased at the same price as Interceptor. Dominator known to be a race type oil protecting a high perf engine better with it`s additive packages for heat, rust, sustained higher rpm`s, bearings, higher loads etc etc

I`ve often read where people said the 787`s are on edge bc BRP squeeked out 110HP from them, does this make them High perf engines?

Thanks...

Yes... it's a "High Performance" engine. It's making 140 HP/Lr. That puts it above most engines that come in supercars. The beauty of the Rotax 800 engine is that it's power output is also still very reliable.

As far as 2-stroke oils, and what is a "Racing" oil... that's a bunch of "Hooie"!!!!

The API-TC oils that Rotax needs are all high performance oils, and would be suitable in a racing 2-stroke engine.

OK... Back in the day, when I was racing SCORE desert series... I ran PJ1 Goldfire oil. It was great, but eventually, they stopped making it. (because it was expensive) I tried oils from Red-line, Maxum, Other Bell-Ray oils, Yamaha, and Honda. I lost top-ends on all of them!!! Then I found the miracle oil. (and it came from a bean)

I started to use Pure caster oil (Maxum 927) and after that... I never lost a top end again.

Anyway... there are a lot of petroleum, Mineral, and synth oils out there... and all of them have their place. Basically... that place it directed because of the additives they put in them.

After typing all that... I can't remember my point. (lol)

What was your question again?

I remember !!

OK... 927 oil has THE best protection on a 2-stroke that I've ever seen. BUT... it's sticky, and gooey. In a 2-stroke dirt bike... the RPM's are always changing (although high) and the heat generated could keep the power valve clean. ALSO... my Yamaha engines used rotary powervlaves, so they didn't gum up easy. If you used 927 in a seadoo 800... I think you would stick a RAVE in about 10 miuntes.

you nailed it!

I just didn`t know for sure if they were considered high perf in stock form...

even tho the GP1300R yami`s were very good I still didn`t consider them high perf until we milled the head and started adding mods including reeds, exhaust mods, reflashed ecu, etc etc which made it a bit more edgy...
with what I saw in aftermarket sources back in the day for the seadoo`s, there is a lot you can do with aftermarket which I would have considered it then to be high perf with all the goodies and the kitchen sink...

I`m guessing that we are of similar age, do you remember the 2 stroke oil that smelled like those .049 COX engines?
I think castrol made it back in the 70`s...
well anyway, I lost top ends in the bikes with that as well...

always enjoy reading about your experiences Doc! thanks...

I would consider 110HP outta 2 cylinders @ around 800cc High Performance. I'm so lost on the 2 strokes now but any engine that size that can produce that kinda power should def. be in the high performance category. My $0.02

Thanks.

Yes... I remember that smell... and I will probably go smell it today. (I've got my RC models on charge now, LOL) Anyway...most "Glow Fuels" used a caster oil in them, and couple that with the nitro-methane... and it gave those engines the distinctive sweet smell. FYI... most glow fuel was 10% oil... but some were as high as 20% !!!!!! That's why they were always a drippy, oily mess after a day of flying. At 10%... that's about 3x the amount of oil that a seadoo uses.

Because of that drippy mess... I stopped flying glow about 12 years ago. My smaller models are electric. (They work very well with LoPo batteries and brushless motors) And all my larger models are gas, or Jet A !!

As a final FYI... my "Gas" models are fed a mix of "White Gas" and Caster oil. It smells great, and the wife doesn't complain about the stink when you bring it home.
