Will a 787 out of a 97 xp work in a 98 challenger 1800? I have a line on a rebuilt engine, but he has it listed as compatible with 97 and 99 challenger 1800s.

Yep.

For the most part... the 800 engines were all the same, and are swapable. The only real diff, was the first year (95) the threads on the crank were different, so the PTO was a little different. (but the drivshaft splines were the same) And... the internal counterweight gears were a different pitch. (but that doesn't mater on the install, just during a rebuild)

Excellent, thank you.
